Andrea Brizuela is intellectual property counsel at NBCUniversal Media, LLC with in-depth counseling, transactional and enforcement experience within the media and entertainment industries. At NBCUniversal she is part of the Creative Content Protection team, which is dedicated to pursuing a full range of strategies to protect NBCUniversal’s content against digital theft. Responsible for enforcing copyrights in the company’s valuable film, television, sports and news properties, Andrea advises the company and its worldwide affiliates and subsidiaries on all facets of enforcement issue including C&D letters, fair use, and the DMCA. She supports company-wide initiatives to reduce the risk of pre-release piracy and to moderate the impact of piracy post-release. Andrea interfaces with the MPAA on their global anti-piracy strategies in addition to working on industry-wide strategies to reduce the impact of piracy through litigation, legislation, voluntary industry initiatives with other players in the Internet ecosystem, coalition-building, and public education. She has prior experience in title, trademark and copyright clearance, branding, right of publicity, portfolio maintenance and management, enforcement, and anti-counterfeiting in both domestic and international markets.
Andrea graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law with honors where she was a Student Fellow of the McCarthy Institute for Intellectual Property and Technology Law, Staff Editor of the Intellectual Property Law Journal, and President of the Intellectual Property Cyber Law Association. She double majored in Film Studies and Media Studies at UC Berkeley. Before her legal profession, Andrea wrote for a web series on the San Francisco-based multi-channel Internet television network, Revision3.
She is also a member of the Los Angeles Copyright Society, International Trademark Association, and Hispanic National Bar Association. She volunteers with Kids In Need of Defense, offering pro bono legal representation to unaccompanied minors from Central America in special immigrant juvenile status proceedings in Immigration and Family court. Andrea resides in Silver Lake, spends her free time on YouTube, and is first generation Salvadoran-American.
