Angela Sierra

Angela Sierra is the Chief Assistant Attorney General of the Public Rights Division, overseeing the work of the Division’s over 400 employees that serve Californians by safeguarding the State’s environment and natural resources, protecting state lands, maintaining competitive markets, preventing fraudulent business practices, protecting consumers against misleading advertising claims, preserving charitable assets and protecting civil rights.  Angela has had the honor of working for the California Department of Justice for 33 years.  Prior to her appointment as the Chief Assistant of the Public Rights Division in March 2018, Angela served in various capacities in the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Enforcement Section for over 17 years, including five years as the Section’s Senior Assistant Attorney General, during which she oversaw the operations of the Section.  During her career at the Department of Justice, Angela has worked on a broad array of issues, including, police practices, voting rights, housing and employment discrimination, immigrant rights, civil prosecution of hate crimes, discriminatory and unlawful business practices, disability access, reproductive rights, environmental justice, Native American cultural protection, and safeguarding essential access to education.

Ms. Sierra earned her J.D. in 1986 from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law and a B.A. in 1982 from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  Angela is a native of Los Angeles, and in her spare time loves to explore and enjoy the wonderful city of LA with her husband Steve and adult daughter Mara.
