Magdalena Casas is a Deputy City Attorney with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, where she prosecutes misdemeanor cases involving a variety of crimes.
A native of the San Fernando Valley raised by immigrant parents from Mexico, she graduated as a co-valedictorian in high school and went on to attend UCLA, where she majored in English Literature, with a minor in Public Policy. She received a Master of Public Administration degree from CSUN and graduated from Whittier Law School, magna cum laude. Before joining the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, Ms. Casas was a Staff Attorney with the non-profit Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County. In that capacity, Ms. Casas assisted self-represented litigants with access to legal services in the areas of family, housing, and civil law.
Magdalena is the immediate past President of the Mexican American Bar Association (MABA) where she served for five years on the board of that organization. Under her leadership as President, MABA had an unprecedented year of growth, having expanded MABA’s membership; provided MABA’s student vice chairs and high school students with scholarship money to use towards their college and bar prep expenses; and, along with several Latinx bar leaders, spearheaded the first ever joint Latino Heritage Month mixer which united attorneys from Los Angeles and Orange County.
In 2022 the Los Angeles County Bar Association honored her as one of several Hispanic Heritage Month honorees for her leadership in the legal community. She is a Founding Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Unity Bar (LACUB), a human rights and social justice organization dedication to service and premised on promoting diversity in the judiciary.
