
Michelle Portillo grew up in and has been an active member of the Latino/a community in Los Angeles. A proud advocate for her community, Michelle fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an attorney by graduating from Stanford Law School in 2021. Currently, she is an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where her practice focuses on representing clients in complex civil litigation, including business disputes, securities litigation and class action lawsuits.
Michelle has represented corporations, as well as their officers and directors, in industries ranging from technology and biotechnology to consumer goods and energy. Deeply committed to her role as an advocate of diversity and to her pro bono work, Michelle serves as the co-Chair of the Latinx Affinity Group and the Chair of the Immigration Impact Project in the Skadden Los Angeles Office. Michelle has worked with individuals and families seeking asylum after experiencing persecution in their home countries, providing them with legal guidance and support through the challenging immigration process. Recently, Michelle successfully argued in front of the Ninth Circuit to secure relief under the Convention Against Torture for her client fleeing persecution in Mexico. Michelle is also a published author, contributing to several legal journals, including the UCLA Disability Law Journal.
